Immigrants Teaching Natives...

My previous post included a prezi on "Teaching with Technology." The prezi included information about digital immigrant (teachers) and digital natives (students), along with problems, technology, tools, and information about the future. In this post, I will be discussing if teachers that are not familiar with technology will be able to teach students who are familiar with all sorts of technology.

One interesting question that arises with the increased use of technology in the classroom, is "Will digital immigrants be able to teach digital natives?" Or will teachers that are not as educated at using technology be able to teach their students that are already advanced tech users?

Overwhelmingly the answer to that question is yes. Teachers that are digital immigrants, need to accept the fact that technology is here, and it is here to stay. They need to enhance there teaching by using technology.  In a blog, by Teachers With Apps, it was stated "we (teachers/educators) need an open mind and we need to learn to leave our fears at the door." Teachers need to be accepting of technology and need to be willing to learn new way of teaching. There are many uses of technology that will help students understand and be more actively engaged in learning. Teachers can no longer just lecture and expect students to know and understand every detail. Students need to be given the opportunity to enhance there learning by incorporating technology and its many beneficial uses.

According to a blog post by Teachers with Apps, "Everything about education needs to change in order for our youth to be ready for whatever tomorrow may bring." Students need to be prepared for whatever there future holds. Students need to have a solid understand of the latest trend in technology so that there peers do not have more advanced skills than them when they enter the working force. In order for this to happen, current educators need to take an active role in being a learner. They need to step outside of there comfort zone and embrace technology to help learners be more actively engaged.
